The History of E.E Green - How it all begun...

E.E Green was established in 1928 by Ernest Edward Green at 12 Church Road, Gorleston, which was to become the family home. He, along with wife Arley worked long and hard to build up the business, which at the time dealt mainly in timber and haulage, producing fence panels and kindling for the fire. Back then, there were no lorries, unlike today so everything had to be moved by Horse and Cart and in 1939
when the war broke out, Ernie was given the task of delivering vital Admiralty supplies to assist the war effort.

In 1936 a son was born, John Edward Green, and as a young man he embarked on an apprenticeship at Juby Bros. as a carpenter. After a short spell in the army, he joined his family business in 1958. John put all his energy into persuading his father to change from horse power to engine power, to no avail. So in 1968 he bought his first second-hand digger for £300, and it was then when E.E. Green & Son Plant Hire was born.

Since that day the company has gone from strength to strength acquiring several items of plant over the years, many specialist items, including a concrete crusher. The company also acquired several different sites, including Priory Farm Restaurant and Browston Pit, it's most recent being Folkes Plant and Aggregates at Burgh Castle.

In 1962 Philip Green was born, the third generation of the family, who alongside Transport Manager, Steve Lee, takes a leading role in the day to day running of E.E Green now.

Obviously over the years things have changed and the way of work now is very different to the days when Ernie had his Horse and Cart. The company now deals extensively in lorry and plant Hire, Muck Away and Bulk Earthworks, Aggregate supplies and offers a full range of Skip Hire. It's most recent acquisition is a Tracked concrete Crusher, with the latest specification, in fact the first one of its kind in norfolk. How times have changed from the £300 digger that started E.E Green to a machine that's used today for £165,000.

The company also deals with demolition and always strives to offer a fast, efficient service with that "personal touch" and may it continue to outgrow us all for many years to come.
